• To facilitate knowledge transfer and information sharing with Chinatown institutions and residents towards independent Green Chinatown Montreal gardens;
  • To develop an alternative food culture in Montreal’s Chinatown with locally cultivated Asian and Western organic vegetables;
  • To establish a social economy and sustainable organizational capacity that includes monetary and non monetary valued resources, communal exchange and voluntary commitment.

Executive Summary

Green Chinatown Montreal (GCM) cultivated, harvested, and distributed
Asian and Western organic vegetables in 2012 to the present. Supported by
collaborators, a volunteer team jointly maintained an organic
vegetable garden seven days a week. The garden view is enjoyed by
family, friends, staff and Chinatown residents and Chinatown’s Chinese
Hospital residents. This social economy of locally grown vegetables is
harvested and enjoyed by all of the GCM gardeners and
the vegetables are sold weekly to Le Frigo Vert.
